On Baile’s Strand

On an atmospheric day the likes of which you can only get in the North wesht, and after walking out to Coney once the tide was well, sort of out, we witnessed the performance of On Baile’s Strand by Sligo’s Blue Raincoat Theatre Company. Voices bellowed and spines shivered, not only from the cold. On Baile’s Strand is a play by Yeats, a fine tragedy which depicts Cuchullain unknowingly swear an oath to fight and kill his own son. When he discovers the truth, he runs out to ‘fight the sea’ in despair. Haunting stuff. We loved it!
